In the winter edition of the magazine published by our official campaign partner, The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), William Cockburn, EU-OSHA Executive Director, contributed a guest article shedding light on the Healthy Workplaces Campaign 2023-25 ‘Safe and healthy work in the digital age’ and its partnership with CPME.

As highlighted in the feature, the organisation has renewed its commitment to the campaign, with the goal of raising awareness and enhancing understanding among doctors across Europe about the effects of emerging digital technologies in the healthcare sector, including both opportunities and challenges. 

The Executive Director notes that a significant number of companies in the EU are already reaping the benefits of the technological advancements. Particularly, the expert underlines the emergence of new digital tools and their application in the health and social care sector in recent years. Automation of tasks, the provision of services via digital platforms and acquisition of new digital skills by healthcare professionals were mentioned as illustrations of such transition. CPME President, Christiaan Keijzer, echoes this sentiment, noting that ‘Digital health technologies are altering the landscape of healthcare delivery, reshaping medical practice, and transforming the patient-doctor relationship.’

At the same time, it is crucial to acknowledge issues brought by the use of digital technology such as isolation, loss of autonomy, and job displacement by algorithms. 

Given this context, the involvement of CPME and its members in the campaign through different activities and events is both timely and very much valuable.
